The Opportunity
Houston's Texas Medical Center is one of the most clinically complex environments in the country, and this MICU Nurse Manager role puts you at the center of it. A large acute care hospital in central Houston is hiring a permanent, full-time nursing leader to manage a 34-bed medical intensive care unit serving CV ICU, MCS Device, MICU, and cardiogenic and lung shock patients. That case mix demands both strong clinical instincts and an experienced leadership hand. Days schedule, no weekends. One opening available.
The organization behind this role has the infrastructure to support its managers. Established interdisciplinary teams, evidence-based clinical protocols, and a unit built for high-acuity complexity give you the tools to lead effectively from day one. A sign-on bonus is available on a case-by-case basis. Relocation assistance is also considered depending on your situation. Compensation is competitive and based on experience.
To be considered, candidates must hold a Bachelor of Science in Nursing; a Master's degree in Nursing or a health-related field is highly preferred. A current Texas RN license is required. BCLS certification from the American Heart Association is required at hire, and ACLS must be obtained within 90 days. National certification in a relevant specialty or nursing administration is expected within six months. A minimum of five years of recent nursing experience is required, along with at least one year of supervisory experience as an assistant nurse manager or charge nurse in direct patient care.
This unit's patient population leans heavily toward post-operative CV recovery and MCS Device management. Candidates with a recent CVICU background are strongly preferred. Strong recent ICU experience will be considered, but CV is the priority. If your background does not include that acuity level, this position is not the right fit.

The Package
Why Houston?
Houston is a genuinely large city that manages to remain accessible in a way that many major metros do not. The cost of living is one of the most competitive among cities of its size. Housing options across the metro run from urban walkable neighborhoods to spacious suburban communities, and everyday expenses are measurably lower than comparable markets on the coasts. There is no state income tax in Texas, which is a meaningful advantage over time. The city's cultural diversity is reflected in everything from its food scene to its residential neighborhoods, and the range of lifestyle options available means clinicians with very different priorities tend to land somewhere that works for them.
For families, the Houston metro has strong school options across public and private systems, and communities like Sugar Land, The Woodlands, Katy, and Clear Lake offer quieter suburban living with straightforward corridors into the medical center. The Gulf Coast beaches are roughly two hours out, and the Buffalo Bayou trail system, Hermann Park, and access to Texas Hill Country give outdoor-minded residents solid options year-round. The city supports major professional sports franchises, a legitimate arts and museum district, and a live music scene with real depth. For a healthcare professional considering a long-term move, Houston is a city that delivers financially, professionally, and personally. It tends to surprise people who come in expecting less.
